Black Rock Hydroelectric Dam
Upriver, out of the city proper, lies the Black Rock Dam. It’s situated just where the Slate spills out of the coast mountains, forming a dark and icy lake between two peaks. The Slate pours out of the dam in a huge waterfall, crashing downslope until it settles into its channel and flows into Downtown. The dam was once the chief source of energy for the city, and was the flagship site of the Delta City Electric Company. Since the opening of the fusion reactor at the University, though, the dam has fallen into disrepair. The turbines still run, but at a fraction of their previous capacity, and barely enough money goes into the place to keep the dam from cracking. However much the owners might like to dynamite the thing, they can’t, because if the dam ever breaks it will flood most of the city.
