Sojourner's Isle

This inhospitable rock is positioned mid-stream in the Slate, just where it branches to part around Caris Island. Distinct from the island is Sojourner’s Isle, or, as it’s often called more recently, Lancaster Island. This is because in the 1980s, the island was purchased by Lancaster Heavy Industries. LHI converted the condemned Slate District Correctional Facility into their new corporate offices, including their 108-storey main building that rises preposterously high compared to the low, flood-ridden, earthquake-prone area around it. (The islet is a spur of hard volcanic rock, chosen to house the prison because it discouraged tunnelling as well as swimming as means of escape.)
